Stop The Presses! Disney’s Newsies Leaps to the Stage for Mainstage at Upper Darby Summer Stage

July 23, 2024 - Drexel Hill, PA. Upper Darby Summer Stage proudly presents the crown jewel of its 49th season, its mainstage production of Disney’s Newsies the Musical. Performances are August 2, 3, 9, and 10 at 7:30 pm. and August 3 and 10 at 1:30 pm. Shows take place at the Upper Darby High School Performing Arts Center located at 601 N. Lansdowne Avenue, Drexel Hill. Parking is free.

Tickets are $16-22 and may be purchased online at udsummerstage.org or by calling the box office at 610.814.7270. The show runs approximately two hours with intermission and is recommended for ages eight and up.

Set in turn-of-the-century New York City and inspired by the real-life newsboys strike of 1899, Newsies is a David vs Goliath story for the ages. The newsboys of New York City rise against publishing titans to strike against unfair working conditions and fight for a better tomorrow. Known for its Tony Award-winning choreography and featuring iconic songs such as “Carrying The Banner,” “Santa Fe” and “King of New York,” Newsies is a timeless tale that will dance its way into your heart and remind everyone that a better tomorrow is always worth fighting for.

Upper Darby Summer Stage is known for its hour-long children’s musicals, however, every summer they also produce a professional-level Mainstage production that is appropriate for the most sophisticated theatre-goer. Mainstage at Summer Stage is a full-length, broadway-style production with a live orchestra, performed by adults from the ages of 18-30.

These Mainstage productions showcase the very best of Summer Stage, with many of the performers pursuing professional theatrical careers. Throughout the years, audiences have recognized the sets, costuming, lighting and professional live orchestra offer an outstanding theatrical experience.
